Mind & Heart
Imagine that it's Monday morning and your alarm is ringing and you have to wake up.
The question for you at that time is are you in the right place?
Are you doing what you love?
I like rainy days. I like sunny days. I like Fridays. I like Mondays. It doesn't matter.
Every day is a new day.
I think, the way I see life now is like every day is a new opportunity.
So I did hit a low. I remember when.
I had this insight - I'm in the wrong place.
I could see from above, that I was in a career that was not important to me.
It was a way of me making money, and that was it.
And a seed was planted in my heart on that Friday.
And that ended up with me leaving that career as an engineer, to jump towards something completely unknown.
Everyone around me was telling me, you are completely crazy.
I was terrified. I was absolutely scared.
It was a fight between heart and mind.
I always trusted my brains to make a decision.
Let's give the heart a chance.
There's a motto on my wall, right in front of my desk.
It's a Brazilian motto, that says in Brazilian Portugese:
Vai. E, se der medo, vai com medo mesmo.
So if I translate it into English, it says:
Go. And if you're scared, go scared.
If you don't make a move, nothing is going to change.
So you are going to live in a constant state of fear.
And this is a very sad life.
Try and understand that fear inside of yourself and make use of it.
So I am very happy now days, doing what I do.
I teach how food is important, and how food can connect us back to nature.
The Mauri word for 'purpose' is koronga.
It says: wishing for the crayfish, won't bring it.
So, you need to do something.
It's that idea of, your purpose is not going to come to you unless you do something.
I realised, I am the owner of my life.
Nobody is going to pick up me up and say:
Wow, you're not living a good life?
So let me put you in a better life.
I think it's dangerous to say, to find your purpose, follow 5 steps.
You know, it doesn't work like that at all.
Purpose is something so deeply personal.
It is related, in my opinion, to yourself as a human being and your experience through life.
And to me it's not about fitting in. It's about finding your own path.
Maybe try not to follow others recipes.
Because sometimes what you really love in life is something that is so unique, and so yours, that nobody else on the planet will understand it.
And once you bring it out it becomes something so powerful and so beautiful.
I think a purpose is something that you cannot switch off.
You live your purpose 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
You don't switch off.
Success for me, is not being wealthy.
You are happy with the things that you have.
Try and challenge your own image of success.
Try and challenge your own values, your beliefs.
Meet different people.
Listen to new ideas. Listen to new perspectives.
Even if the perspectives are completely the opposite of yours.
You can always learn from those people.
When I feel calm and quiet and silent and not anxious,
I know that I am on the right path.
You're going to be frustrated at some point.
You're going to be happy at some point.
But I think, the more you follow your intuition, the more your intuition becomes stronger, and you are more relaxed to follow it.
So the question is very simple.
This is the time that was given to you. You have eighty years.
How would you like to live that life?
There is an inner voice, maybe trying to speak to you.
Calm down, and listen to your heart, and just go for it, and that's the right thing for you to do.
